The resurfacing work on Hyndford Road will be carried out in two phases during the first half of August, to avoid excessive disruption.

Section 1, between St Kentigerns Roundabout and Braxfield Road, will shut on 4 August, at 8am for a period of up to four days.

A signed diversion route will be placed on the A73 Hyndford Road, A743 and A70 Ayr Road.

Additionally, a special diversion route will be operating for vehicles that wish to access New Lanark, using Hope Street, Gallowhill Road, Kildare Road, St Leonard Street and South Vennel.

Because of the amount of properties affected by the closures, access will be enabled wherever possible, but major delays are anticipated until the work is at a stage where access can be accommodated as well as in instances when the depth of the excavation means that access is not possible. 

Those using the affected properties may need to enter or depart through alternative directions and locations, if deemed practical. 

On August 9th, Section 2, between Hyndford Bridge and the A70, will close for a period of up to four days and the diversion route for this work will go along the A70, B7078, A71, A72 and A73.

With the exception of those engaged in the works and emergency service vehicles, no other motor vehicles will be able to park or drive on the road during these times.

Colin Park, South Lanarkshire Council’s head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, said: “This resurfacing work will cost around £200,000 and it represents a significant investment in the road network within Lanark.

“However, the unfortunate side of such extensive work is that it will inevitably cause disruption for drivers and people in the adjacent properties, and we therefore urge everyone to take notice of these closures and think how it might affect them, including planning ahead and allowing extra time for travelling if necessary.

Park added: “We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to people in the area, but their patience and understanding during the course of this work would be much appreciated. 

“I know everyone who uses Hyndford Road will see a benefit in the improved condition of the surface as a result of the works.”
