Man accused of pretending to work for demolition firm to obtain £8,000 of goods

A man has appeared in court in Dundee accused of pretending he worked for a demolition firm to obtain goods worth over £8,000.

Prosecutors allege that David McDermott, 31, formed a fraudulent scheme by pretending he worked for Gowrie Contracts and was authorised to make purchases and entire hire agreements on their behalf, the Evening Telegraph reports.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Mr McDermott is a former employee of Gowrie Contracts.

He is alleged to have induced five local companies – Hire Station, Martin Plant Hire, GAP Tools and Plant Hire and HSS Hire Station – to provide him with goods worth £8,281.73 last December.

Mr McDermott has not entered a plea.
