Masterplan agreed for future redevelopment of Balnagask

Councillors in Aberdeen have agreed to develop a masterplan for the future redevelopment of Balnagask, where demolition works are underway on homes affected by Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).

Presented with an updated report in relation to the voluntary acquisition long-term masterplan for the area, councillors yesterday agreed for a masterplan to be developed that will help determine the future layout and use of Balnagask, including housing and any supporting facilities.

Councillor Miranda Radley, convener of Housing, Communities and Public Protection Committee, said: “We have made significant progress over the past year and I would like to thank homeowners for their continued engagement throughout a very difficult and challenging time.

“We will continue to work with residents and stakeholders as plans develop and through our future engagement, help to create a safe, sustainable and thriving community in the years ahead.”

The masterplan will include wider community engagement and involvement, with the final plans being taken forward in Summer 2027.

Councillors further heard that 128 homeowners of the 138 homes in private ownership affected by RAAC have agreed to sell their property to the council, with 112 purchases already completed.

Demolition works are now underway on areas fully owned by the council, with soft-strip works progressing and utility disconnections continuing.
