McLaughlin & Harvey sees record uptake for Health and Wellbeing Roadshow
Construction and civil engineering specialist McLaughlin & Harvey has seen the highest uptake yet from its YouMatter Health, Safety & Wellbeing Roadshow, with a record number of employees, subcontractors and clients taking part.
Starting in Cambridge and ending in Belfast, a McLaughlin & Harvey bespoke bus visited 19 different sites across the UK, allowing individuals to access a range of health and wellbeing services, including blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol checks, stress-relieving massage, mental health support, appointments with a healthcare practitioner and lifestyle advice.
The annual roadshow first started in 2006 and has become an industry-leading health and wellbeing initiative. Engagement with the initiative continues to grow, with occupational health practitioners onboard the bus meeting with 876 participants in 2025, compared to 707 in 2024 and 438 in 2023.
The Health Check Point equipment, designed to calculate body composition, was used by 1,079 participants, an increase of 31% since 2024. This allows people to detect any issues and take action before they become too serious.
Results suggest that some participants have made lifestyle changes since receiving their results and advice during the previous tour, with referrals for blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol down 8.6%.
Alastair Lambe, group SHEQ director at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: “Last year, more people than ever chose to ‘get on board’ and take control of their health. We saw lots of new faces, as well as returning participants, many of whom saw improvement in their results and others who received the referral or advice they needed to make changes. By providing an informal, real-time opportunity to speak to a professional and access information, we can help people lead happier, healthier lives.
“As we celebrate 20 years of the Health & Wellbeing Roadshow this year, it’s great to see how far it’s evolved into an inclusive, industry-leading initiative that demonstrates McLaughlin & Harvey’s commitment to the wellbeing of not only our employees, but our supply chain as well.”
Launched in response to the barriers on-site workers may face when it comes to accessing healthcare appointments away from home, the initiative brings these services directly to participants, enabling them to get a measure of their health and make small changes that can have a big impact.
The Health and Wellbeing Roadshow forms part of McLaughlin & Harvey’s wider YouMatter progamme, which aims to raise the profile of health and safety within the business and wider supply chain.
