Montrose Port reveals first designs for major redevelopment

Montrose Port has released the first images of its planned multi‑million‑pound Forties Road development, marking a significant step in its long-term expansion strategy.

The proposals, now submitted to Angus Council, outline the transformation of the former Petrofac fire safety training facility into a 26‑acre hub featuring new warehousing, offices, business units, a redesigned entrance roundabout and associated infrastructure.

The port purchased the site from Equipco Investments Ltd in 2024 as part of its ambition to strengthen its position as a key offshore energy hub in Scotland. The redevelopment is seen as a cornerstone of wider growth plans in and around the town, with the project expected to support job creation linked to the North Sea’s growing offshore wind sector.

Working with local practice Crawford Architecture, Montrose Port has included detailed design visuals in its planning submission. These show new office and warehouse buildings, improved pedestrian access and a through‑route connecting the site.

A supporting statement says the location is well placed to accommodate port expansion, offshore energy supply chain activity, advanced manufacturing and logistics. Several existing buildings on the site remain in use as office space for oil and gas training providers.

Adjacent agricultural land is earmarked for conversion into a renewables technology park, intended to complement the wider development.

The application also features a proposed new road layout, which the port says would create a safer, more direct access point while easing current congestion on Forties Road. The redesign is also expected to act as a traffic‑calming measure on the A92 Charleton Road.

Montrose Port has already showcased the plans at public events held at the George Hotel and the Playhouse, inviting local residents to share their views.
