Following the recent recognition of project manager Jordan Hughes, winner of a prestigious NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award, Cala Homes (West)’s Cornhill Village development in Hamilton welcomed Mark Griffin, MSP for Central Scotland.

During his visit, Mr Griffin, who also serves as the Scottish Labour spokesperson for Local Government and Housing, met with Jordan and his team and NHBC inspection manager Scott Little, to tour the award-winning development, located off the town’s Strathaven Road.

The visit offered a behind-the-scenes look at Cornhill Village’s progress, from the trio of showhomes that front the site to the new homes currently under construction.

Cala Homes is building 196 four- and five-bedroom homes at Cornhill Village, which forms part of Hamilton’s community growth area. The development has already enjoyed a standout year, having been awarded ‘Showhome of the Year’ at the 18th annual Scottish Home Awards in Glasgow for its five-bedroom Darroch house type.

During the tour, Mr Griffin also saw Cala’s ‘Showhome of Support’ initiative in action, part of the company’s Community Pledge. The scheme highlights local enterprise by showcasing products from nearby businesses and suppliers within the showhomes.

Project manager Jordan Hughes said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome Mark Griffin MSP to Cornhill Village and show him what we’ve achieved here. Winning the NHBC Pride in the Job Award reflects the high standards we strive for every day, but more importantly, it highlights the team culture we’ve built, one based on ownership, problem-solving, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

“I hope Mark saw that spirit in action during his visit. We’re grateful to him for taking the time to come and recognise our efforts.”

Mark Griffin added: “I’m really pleased to have visited Cornhill Village development in Hamilton today, and to pass on my congratulations to Jordan Hughes of Cala Homes for his much-deserved Quality Award from NHBC Pride in the Job Awards.

“I saw the drive and ability it takes to run a manage a successful site, and those are the skills we need if we are to build the decent, affordable homes that will end the housing emergency in Scotland. I can see why the ‘Oscars of the housebuilding industry’ chose to recognise him out of a potential 8,000 candidates and wish him all the best for the next level of the competition.”

NHBC inspection manager Scott Little said: “The Cornhill Village development is a strong example of quality, modern housebuilding and its Project Manager Jordan Hughes is rightly proud of what he and his team have achieved and is well-deserving of his recent NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award win.

“The homes at Cala’s Cornhill Village development in Hamilton will be enjoyed by their residents for many years to come and we are pleased Mr Griffin took the opportunity to learn about the great work being undertaken in the home building industry.”
