The National Access & Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) has announced the sudden death of its president and chairman, Wayne Connolly.

Wayne was a highly respected leader within NASC, the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) and the wider scaffolding and access sector. He began his journey with the Confederation as a regional chair before going on to serve as chair of the Membership Standards Committee.

In 2022, Wayne joined the NASC boards, and in 2024, was appointed president and chairman of both NASC and CISRS, roles in which he played a pivotal part in guiding and shaping the organisations.

In addition to his work with NASC Group, Wayne served as chair of the International Access & Scaffolding Association (IASA). In this role, he worked tirelessly to promote collaboration, best practice and high standards across international markets, strengthening relationships between national trade bodies and elevating the voice of the sector on a global stage.

Through his leadership at IASA, Wayne was widely regarded as a global leader in scaffolding and access, respected not only for his commercial insight but for his integrity, diplomacy and unwavering commitment to improving standards worldwide.

A leading businessman in the north west, Wayne built a successful chain of automotive repair establishments before founding Connolly Scaffolding. Under his leadership, Connolly Scaffolding grew into a well-regarded and progressive business, most recently marked by the opening of a new office and a period of expansion in partnership with several key partners. Wayne’s commitment to quality, professionalism and growth was evident in all aspects of his work.

Within NASC, Wayne was one of the key figures behind the organisation’s recent transformation. He was passionate about raising standards, strengthening governance and ensuring NASC remained a strong, credible and forward-looking voice for the industry. His integrity, clarity of thought and calm leadership earned him widespread respect and admiration.

Wayne was a keen diver and had recently passed one of the highest acclaimed levels as a dive instructor. His passion for technical precision, in all spheres was truly an inspiration to all around him and he has motivated many, in many fields.

Clive Dickin, group CEO of NASC, said: “Wayne was not only an outstanding president and chairman, but a true friend. His belief in NASC, his commitment to doing the right thing, and his determination to improve our industry will leave a lasting legacy. He gave so much of his time, wisdom and energy, and his loss will be felt deeply by us all. On a personal level, I will miss him enormously.”

NASC said Wayne will be profoundly missed by his colleagues, friends and the many people whose lives and careers he influenced. The trade body extended its deepest sympathies to Wayne’s fiancé, Nicola, his entire family, and everyone at Connolly Scaffolding at this incredibly difficult time.

Details of the funeral service and donations will be published on the NASC website in the coming days. An online Book of Remembrance is now open.
