National Trust for Scotland appoints new director of conservation and policy
Anne McCall
Conservation charity the National Trust for Scotland has appointed Anne McCall as director of conservation & policy, starting the role on 24 August.
Originally from Dumfries and Galloway, Anne has been director of RSPB Scotland since 2017, where she has been proud to help establish a country-wide programme of peatland restoration, played a key role in many game-changing landscape-scale conservation projects, including Cairngorms Connect and the Orkney Native Wildlife Project and relished the opportunity to chair the judging panel for the Nature of Scotland Awards each year.
In addition to nature conservation expertise, her role at RSPB has involved responsibility for the care of land, historic buildings and archaeological sites across the charity’s estate, which is comparable in size to that of the National Trust for Scotland’s. Anne is also a qualified town planner and holds a degree in history and politics.
In her new role at the National Trust for Scotland, Anne will oversee all the charity’s national conservation functions of buildings conservation, nature conservation, collections services, gardens and designed landscapes, archaeology, policy, environment and risk.
Chief executive Phil Long OBE, said: “The National Trust for Scotland has one of the biggest and broadest conservation remits in Scotland and we are delighted to have found a candidate in Anne with the skills, experience and interests which match that so well. We look forward to welcoming her to our charity where she will play a vital part in progressing our work to care for our places and enable all to enjoy them.”
Anne McCall added: “I am honoured to be able to take on this unique role with such an extraordinary organisation. As a member of the National Trust for Scotland I have long admired the scale and scope of what it delivers and it will be my great privilege to contribute to that delivery.”
Anne McCall succeeds Stuart Brooks who died in December 2025 after illness.
