New care home takes shape in Clarkston

A new care home being delivered on the grounds of Greenbank Parish Church in Clarkston is beginning to take shape.

The new 50-bedroom residence is being constructed by CCG (Scotland) on behalf of Morrison Community Care Group as part of an innovative joint venture partnership that has delivered over 500 bed spaces for the elderly across Scotland in the last decade.

Work to transform the site began last summer, with the first elements of the building’s superstructure now visible to passersby along Eaglesham Road.

CCG (Scotland) managing director, David Wylie, said: “I am delighted to see the progress made by our contract team, who have performed diligently in the face of challenges posed by how tightly constrained the site is and the steep gradient.

“Works to date have had to be strictly coordinated to minimise the impact of construction on the church itself and the surrounding community, and this will continue as the erection of the building’s superstructure advances.”

The new care home is the latest example of Morrison Community Care Group’s approach to identifying underutilised land, the outcome of which is helping to address Clarkston’s growing ageing population through the provision of state-of-the-art, round-the-clock residential, nursing and dementia care.

The development will also create a lasting legacy for the church through proceeds from the land sale, which have helped fund a major renovation of its parish buildings and the construction of a new community facility.

Upon its official opening next year, residents will have access to private en-suite bedrooms, alongside a cinema room, hair salon, and freshly prepared meals served by professionally trained chefs.

Family members can also be hosted in a visitor café, champagne bar, and celebration room, while quiet rooms will offer private areas for them to spend time with their loved ones.

Paul Sokhi, managing director of Morrison Community Care Group, said: “The progress made on site to date is tremendous, and I commend CCG, as well as our valued design team members Holmes Miller, Cowal Design, Design Me, and CRGP, for getting us to this stage.

“With the support of East Renfrewshire Council, early design collaboration and CCG’s speed of delivery will ensure this much-needed development is completed quickly, bringing high-quality care provision to the Clarkston community sooner.

“Unfortunately, this approach is not being replicated widely enough across Scotland. As our population continues to age, demand for modern care accommodation is outstripping supply, while the number of care beds continues to decline.

“Our work at Greenbank demonstrates what can be achieved through partnership working, and I hope it places a greater sense of urgency on delivering the modern care facilities our communities urgently need.”
