New entertainment concept set for XSite Braehead site

The XSite Braehead facility in Renfrew is to be rebranded and transformed into a new entertainment destination.

Developed by owners XPE Group and driven by a £12.6m investment programme, GRID will be anchored by K1 Speed, bringing to Glasgow a unique world class indoor e-karting attraction boasting the world’s longest indoor race-track, set to open in summer 2026.

Alongside K1 Speed, GRID will soon host a raft of new family-oriented offers, including Gymnastics Academy and Heavenly Desserts, all day coffee and much-needed electric vehicle charging facilities in the car park.

These new arrivals have also encouraged existing tenants to upgrade – the ever-popular Odeon cinema has refreshed its customer offer with a new Laser IMAX installation, while Paradise Island Adventure Golf and Funstation have both announced forthcoming refits.

GRID has an interesting genesis, as the site’s 20th birthday approaches in 2026. While the nod to e-karting signals the forthcoming K1 Speed, it also references the heritage of the site as a former electricity plant that kept Glasgow homes warm and lit during the last century.

On-site enhancements will also see GRID delivering new interiors, lighting, signage and a customer-focused site team, alongside everything from grab-and-go coffee to sit-down meals. Over time, every aspect of the customer experience will be upgraded.

Pete Cooper, director of XPE Group, said: “The launch of GRID will redefine this already much-loved destination and extend its appeal far beyond its existing catchment. The ambition of the brand is to surprise our guests with new, better and updated experiences, both through an offer unique to Glasgow and indeed Scotland, and through the small details that make a big difference to the overall experience.

“We’re creating a space with international standards, local relevance and long-term impact. From how our site teams interact with guests to our website we are leaving no stone unturned to bring GRID firmly into pole position as the most compelling leisure destination in the region while retaining the strong local connection the site has always enjoyed. We are creating over 200 new local jobs through our investment and Renfrew Council’s support for our plans has been exemplary.

“We are committed to delivering for visitors and for the local community an up-to-date look and feel aligned with the best Scotland has to offer, with hyper-local commercial activations and events, a delicious range of food, and all-day access to a wider variety of compelling entertainment.”

Matt Beddow, senior director of asset management at Pradera Lateral, GRID’s asset manager, added: “2026 will be another huge year for this scheme and the arrival of GRID to Braehead signifies the next chapter for what is already a much-loved leisure destination. Backed by a large-scale, unprecedented investment and with an enhanced visitor experience, we are setting GRID up for a bright future.”
