This site was completed and handed over during the COVID-19 pandemic in September 2020 which was a notable effort by Calmax Construction Limited due to the additional challenges during that time.

Iain Macmillan, HHP’s chair, said: “It is important to celebrate all the new homes HHP are building across our communities and perhaps especially those such as Sgeir Ghlais that were built and completed during the most difficult stages of the pandemic. Our staff and contractors rose to the challenges and these high quality homes are testament to that.”

Councillor Kenny John Macleod, chairman of the Comhairle’s communities and housing committee, added: “I am very pleased to see this HHP development being officially opened, as these houses have had a significant impact on housing need in this part of Lewis since they were completed. It’s really good to see the mix of social rented and shared equity houses, as this will increase the housing options in the area.

“On behalf of the Comhairle I would like to thank all the partner agencies who have been involved in taking this housing development to fruition. This will be my last official role as chairman of Communities and Housing Committee, so I would like to take the opportunity to thank HHP for the significant number of new houses they have built over the years, and I look forward to hearing about new rural developments such as Sgeir Ghlais in the years to come.”
