The new homes, built by CCG (Scotland) Ltd, comprise 4 one-bed cottage flats, 12 two-bed flats and 1 two-bed bungalow; 3 of the homes will be wheelchair adaptable. Handovers to the council are on track for August this year, with tenants due to move in from September.

The development, located on Barrhead Road, represents an investment of more than £4.3 million, with £1.9m funding from the Scottish Government, as well as developer contributions and the council’s own capital investment.

The new homes have been designed with high levels of insulation to keep tenants warm and comfortable while reducing energy demand. Heating is provided by zero-emission Air Source Heat Pumps and an Exhaust Air Source Heat Pump system.

In addition, solar panels will be installed to generate renewable electricity, further lowering running costs and carbon emissions. All homes will be built with level access, ensuring they can meet the needs of a wide range of tenants both now and in the future.

Following the delivery of more than 100 new build council homes in the Maidenhill area of Newton Mearns over recent years, this development was brought forward to help tackle the local housing emergency, declared in 2024.

Housing and Environment convener, Councillor Danny Devlin, said: “It was great to visit the site and see the progress that has been made. Having declared the local housing emergency last year, we know that more people than ever need a permanent place to call home, so it’s extremely important that we do all we can to create more social housing in the area and tackle the issues we’re facing.”

Council leader Owen O’Donnell added: “I’m delighted that we’re going to provide tenants with these high-quality homes. Energy bills remain high, so I’m pleased that these homes will be equipped with modern, energy-efficient heating and insulation, helping our tenants to save money. This development reflects our ongoing commitment to help residents flourish, and I look forward to seeing tenants move in later this year.”

A spokesperson for CCG (Scotland) said: “Our method of construction is among the most advanced seen anywhere in the UK. Using an approach known as ‘offsite’, we fabricate entire wall zones - complete with windows and doors, insulation and internal linings - at our semi-automated facility in Cambuslang before erecting them into position onsite.

“This enables higher quality standards and faster delivery, as demonstrated by the strong progress at Barrhead Road. Our wider in-house divisions will now be deployed to build out the development which we look forward to completing later this year.”
