North-East Scotland at heart of ‘generational economic opportunity,’ says Revolut chairman

Martin Gilbert
Finance veteran Martin Gilbert has championed North-East Scotland as a “generational economic opportunity”, urging global investors to back its pivotal role in the energy transition.
Speaking ahead of the Global Investment Summit in Edinburgh, the Revolut chairman highlighted the region’s vast potential. He pointed to the tens of billions of pounds poised for investment in offshore wind, the job-creating potential of the Acorn carbon capture project, and the emergence of a hydrogen economy.
Mr Gilbert, co-founder of Aberdeen Asset Management, told The Press & Journal “the north-east has a long and proud heritage of entrepreneurship, innovation, and engineering excellence,” adding, “today, the region is at the heart of a generational economic opportunity”.
He believes international investors have rightly taken notice of both the scale of the opportunity and the world-class expertise within the local energy industry. He added that initiatives like Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone are helping to ensure the region is ready to seize this new chapter.
The landmark summit, a joint venture between Scottish Financial Enterprise and the City of London Corporation, brings together Scottish business leaders, international investors, and government ministers. The event will feature addresses from First Minister John Swinney and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, with the energy transition taking centre stage.
