North Lanarkshire Council to host Built Environment Skills Summit

North Lanarkshire Council has announced its first ever Built Environment Skills Summit, taking place on 22 August 2025, bringing together businesses, educators, and industry leaders to address critical workforce challenges in the construction and built environment sector.

Organised by the Built Environment Sector Board, the summit aims to create practical, collaborative solutions to tackle skills shortages and support the sector’s growth. As one of the largest employment sectors in North Lanarkshire, the built environment plays a key role in the area’s economic regeneration.

“Many employers are facing real difficulties in finding the skilled workers they need,” said a council spokesperson. “This summit is an opportunity for us to come together, share ideas, and take action to strengthen the talent pipeline for the future.”

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • Initial findings from recent research into key skills and workforce gaps
  • New training and career pathways developed in partnership with local colleges and employers through the NL Academies
  • Feedback from the 2024–2025 Summer Placement Programme, including ideas to better engage young people in the sector

The event is open to businesses of all sizes across North Lanarkshire. The council encourages local employers to attend and contribute their views on how best to support skills development in the region.

The summit promises a morning of valuable discussion, networking, and knowledge-sharing. Interested participants are asked to register by Friday 8 August at 12 noon.
