Over £2.8bn committed from National Wealth Fund to Scotland
Over £2.8 billion of capital has been committed by the National Wealth Fund to projects in Scotland, amounting to over 25% of capital deployed as of yet.
The Fund’s commitments have so far helped to drive £6.6bn of public and private finance in Scotland.
Investments to date are supporting or generating roughly 10,000 jobs, supporting projects in Scotland’s renewable energy system and wider economy, ranging from wind power in Orkney and major energy grid upgrades in northern Scotland, to AI infrastructure in North Lanarkshire, to regeneration projects in Edinburgh.
The figures, which were published in the National Wealth Fund’s second Impact Report, ‘National Wealth Fund: Investing across the nations and regions of the UK’, discuss the impact of its investments in the nations and regions of the UK.
The Fund has committed over £10.9bn across 90 investments.
An £800 million commitment is supporting four major transmission upgrades in northern Scotland.
The Fund is also investing in emerging industries and infrastructure in Scotland. A £43.5m investment in Pulpex is helping to transform a packaging innovation into a commercial manufacturing business, helping the business to provide the world’s first commercial-scale fibre bottle manufacturing facility near Glasgow.
In Edinburgh, a £38.4m loan is supporting infrastructure for the Granton Waterfront’s first phase.
A total of 847 energy-efficient homes will be completed in the first phase.
Oliver Holbourn, chief executive officer of the National Wealth Fund, said: “We have committed more than a quarter of our capital to Scottish projects, reflecting both the scale of the country’s economic opportunities and its central role in unlocking the UK’s future.
“From wind power and grid infrastructure in northern Scotland, to AI-ready data centres in North Lanarkshire, we are backing Scotland, creating new investment, good jobs and long-term growth.”
