Plans for £60m Gleneagles resort

Plans for the creation of a tourist resort worth £60 million to be built next to Gleneagles hotel have been revealed.

Developers are drawing up plans for nearly 200 bespoke lodges across 60 acres of land just north of the five-star hotel.

Anchorus Ltd said the project is part of its vision to build a “unique” visitor destination in the heart of rural Perthshire.

The firm said this would complement existing facilities at the nearby Auchterarder hotel.

If the scheme goes ahead, the build would have a development value of over £60 million and would create around 50 new jobs.

Anchorus have filed a formal Proposal of Application Notice with Perth and Kinross Council and bosses will present the scheme to residents at a series of consultation events in September.

Anchorus’ designs for this tourist resort include proposals to upgrade walking and cycling routes around the site.

A concierge and central booking system will be created to promote local businesses and help tourists’ plan their holidays.

The plan is not related to Gleaneagles’ own plan for a holiday resort which comprises of two new restaurants and shops which had been approved by councillors last month.

The Gleneagles’ tourist project has been preliminary allocated 250 acres of land at Easterton Farm, less than five miles from Anchorus’ site.

Company director for the Gleneagles site, Scott Gillespie said: “The proposals address a gap in the market for this type of holiday accommodation and provide the opportunity to promote Perthshire as a fantastic tourism destination. Not only do the lodges benefit from the close pedestrian links to one of Scotland’s best hotels, they create a base for owners to explore everything else we have to offer here, from walking, cycling, fishing and a whole array of other outdoor and leisure pursuits.”

The planning application will be significantly influenced by the feedback provided by residents at the upcoming consultation event next month.
