Plans lodged for new student accommodation development in Port Dundas

Halliday Fraser Munro has submitted a planning application for a purpose-built student accommodation development in Port Dundas, Glasgow.

Designed on behalf of GSS Developments, the project would accommodate 454 student bed spaces across two blocks on part of the former Port Dundas Distillery site at 99 Borron Street.

Demolition of the disused premises on the land took place in January.

A design document included with a planning application submitted to Glasgow City Council states: “The project will deliver a vibrant, inclusive, comfortable, and sustainable living environment for students.

“The design will foster a sense of community, promote well-being, and provide various opportunities for social interaction and relaxation.

“The development will allow for a diverse student population and will consider their needs for privacy, study, and recreation.”

Halliday Fraser Munro has added: “Designed to prioritise the quality of both internal and external amenity spaces, this development promises a dynamic, sustainable living environment. With a keen focus on fostering community, promoting well-being, and providing diverse opportunities for social interaction and relaxation, the proposal embodies the highest standard in student accommodation.

“From enhanced connectivity, celebration of the local industrial heritage, and extensive high quality external landscaping the development will offer a vibrant home to its student population. Aligned with the objectives of the 100-Acre Hill Masterplan this development promises to enrich the fabric of the developing Port Dundas area of Glasgow, as well as helping to meet the published demand for more student homes in Glasgow.”
