Plans submitted for recladding at Skypark campus in Finnieston
Plans have been submitted by the global active asset manager, Federated Hermes, to Glasgow City Council to reclad Skypark 1, the nine-storey building at the centre of its Finnieston-based Skypark campus.
The asset manager manages Skypark on behalf of an institutional investor client. Work will begin early next year, subject to planning consent.
This most recent investment of more than £8 million will give the office building a new look.
Installed in the late 1990s, the current exterior panels of the building will be replaced with a new insulated cladding system.
This new cladding work will be delivered on non-tenanted areas including behind escape stairs, toilets, and lift cores. This will reduce energy loss and boost energy efficiency.
The redesign will give the building a more modern look, with the colour and tone differing across its height.
Since 2018, owners of Skypark have invested in excess of £17m to upgrade and refurbish office accommodation and deliver sustainability and amenity initiatives.
These include the decarbonisation and refurbishment of office suites, construction of Glasgow’s biggest end-of-journey cycle hub as well as a new reception and café.
Currently, almost 40 businesses are based in Skypark, with nearly 1,500 people working across the campus.
Christina Holland, asset management director, Federated Hermes Real Estate, said: “Skypark has grown into one of Glasgow’s most sought-after business addresses, and this investment will ensure that Skypark 1 keeps pace with what occupiers expect from their workspace.
“We’ve seen through projects like NOMA in Manchester and Paradise in Birmingham how the right long-term investment in a building and its surroundings can shape an area for the better.”
Holland added: “Glasgow city centre continues to evolve at pace, and we want to ensure that Skypark contributes to this positive change.”
Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “Skypark is an important business destination in a strategic location, and this continued investment in the campus is a strong vote of confidence in Glasgow.”
