Plans submitted to convert Pollockshields church into flats

Glasgow City Council has received plans to convert a former church in Pollockshields into 17 flats.

The plans concern the B-listed premises on Shields Road at Nithsdale Road which used to be a care home and children’s nursery.

The flats would comprise a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

If approved, a part-demolition of an extension would be undertaken, along with the construction of a new extension, reGlasgow reports.

A statement submitted with the planning application by architects at BB Partnership reads: “The proposed design will maintain the key features of the listed building, and enhance its existing landscape setting, contributing to the quality of the townscape and enhancing the character and appearance of the Conservation Area.

“Minimal alterations are proposed to the external elevations, with the design ethos for the conversion led by the retention of the existing architectural features.”
