Previously, trains stopped at a point on the platform that required passengers to walk a considerable distance to board, increasing the time it took for services to call at the station. 

The nine-week project involved carefully deconstructing the platform and rebuilding it at a reduced size. Tactile paving was also installed to support visually impaired passengers.  

The work was carried out in short sections meaning the station could remain open and operational throughout. The station building was also unaffected.

Ian Clark, scheme project manager at Network Rail Scotland, said: “We’re pleased to have delivered this improvement for passengers at Ardgay. By rebuilding the platform, passengers can now reach their trains much more easily, and it should help services keep moving without unnecessary delays. 

“Completing the work with the station open was a key priority for us, and I’m proud of the team for managing this effectively. These changes, including the addition of tactile paving, reflect our commitment to making Scotland’s railway safer and more reliable.”

The work at Ardgay is part of Network Rail’s ongoing commitment to modernising Scotland’s railway infrastructure, with other platform renewal projects completing this year at Hillington West, Hamilton West, Dunkeld and Birnam, and Alexandra Parade in Glasgow.
