Private flats set for former Glasgow grounds maintenance depot

Plans for the new homes

Glasgow City Council has approved plans for 32 homes for private rent to be built on the site of a former council grounds maintenance depot.

John Wright Properties Ltd has been granted permission to develop the site at 1514 Barrhead Road in the Hurlet area of the city, close to the boundary with East Renfrewshire.

The development will consist of seven blocks, mainly of flats and townhouses, predominately of two and three-storeys, ranging from three to eight-person homes.

A design statement submitted by Atelier-M Architecture and Design when the application was submitted in July 2019 explained: “There is to be a variety of housing types and sizes of accommodation to meet the housing needs within the local rented market.

“The development is to be designed so that tenants would aspire to living in the development for a long time due to its attractive and safe environment.”

It added: “John Wright Properties Ltd (JWP) have completed and are currently developing properties for private rent in the Glasgow area.

“The properties are retained by JWP and rented out at the market rate depending on the location of the development. The development at Barrhead Road will be part of their growing portfolio of properties.”
