Procast delivers new Lanimer Shed facility in Lanark

Procast Group has successfully delivered a new purpose-built Lanimer Shed in Lanark Moor Country Park on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council — just in time to support preparations for one of the town’s most cherished annual traditions.

The £700,000 project, completed over 30 weeks and within budget, now provides a modern community workshop and committee hub for the construction of Lanimer lorries and wider community use.

The steel portal frame structure, clad with insulated panels, is a vital new asset for the town ahead of Lanimer Week 2025, which begins on Sunday, June 8.

Constructed using driven piling for the foundations, the facility also includes full groundworks, drainage, a floor slab, mechanical and electrical services, and external landscaping. It features an environmentally conscious Klargester waste tank and reed bed system to manage drainage sustainably.

Throughout the project, Procast maintained strong relationships with nearby neighbours at the local riding centre, pausing work when requested to avoid disruption and even donating funds to support beginner riding sessions for local children.

The opening of the facility was marked by a special community event attended by dozens of local residents and Lanimer Committee members. Lanimer Queen Lacey Steele and Queen-Elect Maisey Talbot cut the ceremonial ribbon before planting a birch tree to mark the occasion. The celebration was led by Lanimer Committee chair Gordon Gray and Lord Cornet-Elect Edward Pringle.

Derek Innes, managing director of Procast Group, said: “We’re proud to have delivered a facility that will serve not just a practical purpose, but a cultural one too. The Lanimer Shed is a real community hub that will bring people together and support an iconic Lanark tradition for generations to come. We’re especially pleased that it’s being put to good use so quickly, with preparations for the 2025 celebrations already well underway.”

Procast’s commitment to community benefit extended beyond the build itself. A local security company was employed to protect the site out of hours, and a trainee manager role was created to support the construction team. Further training including SMSTS and First Aid courses have been scheduled.

The Lanimer Committee expressed their gratitude to South Lanarkshire Council for delivering what they called a “fantastic facility,” describing it as a “real asset for our future Lanimer celebrations” and a much-needed space to support the construction of the town’s signature, elaborately-decorated procession lorries.

Lanimer Day 2025 takes place on Thursday, June 12, with Queen-Elect Maisey crowned in front of St Nicholas’ Church.
