Delivered on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council, the project has seen the transformation of critical areas of the school and dealt with the presence of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), making sure the building is secure, safe and equipped for the future. 

The works started last year were carried out over the course of a 48-week programme, with Procast Group delivering the removal and replacement of RAAC panels in the primary school’s gym, dining hall, boiler room and open-plan teaching spaces.

The project has seen the replacement of the RAAC panels with modern and durable roof construction.

Lanarkshire-based Procast Group also carried out extensive associated works, such as the temporary removal, storage and recommissioning of the boiler plant, internal refurbishment, structural enhancements, and further mechanical and electrical upgrades.

During the project, specialist crane operations and tented scaffolding systems were implemented to allow for the safe removal of the panels while maintaining the building’s weatherproofing.

“Most importantly, our pupils and staff can now enjoy a safe, secure and modern learning environment, giving everyone real peace of mind following the remediation of the RAAC.”

Situated on Cumbernauld’s Tiree Road, the primary school was one of several schools in Scotland identified as containing RAAC. 

RAAC is a light concrete material which has typically been used in buildings constructed between the mid-1950s and mid-1990s.
