Proposals for new Girvan Primary School campus approved

At a meeting of South Ayrshire Council’s cabinet on Tuesday 23 September, councillors agreed a range of proposals relating to the development of the new Girvan Primary School campus.

This means that initial works to segregate the construction site will commence during the upcoming October school holidays.

The new campus will be built on the existing site and will accommodate a brand-new primary school and early years centre.

The primary school building will have classrooms over two levels, with flexible break-out teaching space and support facilities. Plans also include a welcoming main entrance and reception, a dining area, and a sports hall with retractable bleacher seating. The ground floor will accommodate an ASN Base with its own specialist facilities.

The new early years centre will be located in a standalone single-storey building on the site with its own entrance and reception.

External spaces will include a range of teaching, socialising, play and sports areas, as well as car parking and vehicle servicing areas.

To allow for a smooth transition and minimise disruption for pupils, staff and parents and carers, the new building will be built while the existing school remains operational.

Completion of the primary school building is projected for Spring 2027; at which time children will move into the new school and demolition of the existing building can begin. Construction of the new early years building will follow these demolition works.

Depute chief executive and director of housing, operations and development, Kevin Braidwood, said: “This investment in school estate will bring a fantastic modern learning campus to Girvan and provide an engaging learning environment for children in both the Early Years and Primary stages. I’m sure many families in Girvan and the surrounding area will look forward to works commencing on this fantastic new facility.”
