A planning application has been submitted for a £2 million off-grid rum distillery on the River Clyde, using a fusion of traditional methods and modern technology.

The South Lanarkshire initiative, proposed by Neil Pringle, will be positioned at the start of the “Clyde Valley Tourist Route”. The flood-resilient structure plans to work with distillery manufacturer iStill to cut energy consumption by 80% compared to conventional distilleries.

The facility will also include a visitor centre and cafe. It will aim to produce 60,000 litres of alcohol annually, including rum, vodka, and eventually whisky. Once operational it is expected to create 33 full-time jobs.
