RJ McLeod to carry out enabling works for Ardrossan Campus

North Ayrshire Council has confirmed that a contractor has been appointed to carry out enabling works at the site of the new Ardrossan Community Campus.

Glasgow-based RJ McLeod will carry out the enabling works – which will prepare the site for the future development of the new Ardrossan Community Campus – over the coming months.

Work at the Ardrossan Coastal Quarter site is due to begin shortly and will run alongside the separate site remediation works which began in October.

The enabling works will involve installation of a revetment, creation of a new spine road and coastal path, earth movement and other works to ensure the site is ready for the development of the new Community Campus.

Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for green environment and economy, said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm that RJ McLeod have been appointed and look forward to enabling works starting on site over the coming months.

“It is good to be able to provide regular updates and this is a significant milestone for this project. These works are not only critical for the development of the Campus but also the wider regeneration programme and further phases of development.

“We will continue to provide updates when we have them as we edge closer to delivering what is such an exciting development for the community.”

The £3 million remediation process is being carried out by Sanctus Ltd - who have worked on numerous brownfield and infrastructure programmes across the UK– and will last just under a year. It will incorporate a range of environmental improvement measures which will ensure the land is safe.

The remediation works incorporate treatment of soil and groundwater to meet the highest standard according to UK Government Environmental Guidelines.

The site is expected to be ready for construction of the Campus early next year.
