With UK foodbanks facing soaring demand for their services over the festive period, property development company S Harrison is doing its bit to help those facing hardship and donated a wide range of kitchen staples to charities in Scotland.

The company’s donations, which range from tinned meats and biscuits through to Christmas puddings and tinned fruit, will help the most disadvantaged in Edinburgh, where S Harrison is currently working on several developments.

The company has teamed up with Reverand Iain May and his colleagues at Edinburgh North East Foodbank. With the support of Glasgow wholesaler Filshill Ltd, S Harrison’s Andrew Wharton delivered a vast range of staples to support the foodbank’s work in Leith and the surrounding area.

For the third year running, S Harrison is also supporting Edinburgh Food Project, in addition to working with Rowan Alba, an Edinburgh charity which provides services to help prevent homelessness before it happens. For those who have lived on the streets, it provides the all-round integrated support to keep them off the streets for life.

Ann Scott, from S Harrison, said: “Whilst we know that the development projects we deliver bring benefits to the communities we serve, we feel it is also important to find ways to connect with and support the most disadvantaged in those communities too.

“Our entire team are committed to working with local and well-run charities that make a genuine difference to people in the areas where we operate. It’s no secret that lots of people are facing hardship right now for all types of reasons and if these donations can help to make life a little easier over the festive season, then they will be well worth it, and we hope it could also inspire others to support local foodbanks.”

Reverand Iain May, from Edinburgh North East Foodbank, said: “Anyone can find themselves at crisis point for a number of different reasons and this year things are tougher than ever for so many people. We’ve seen a noticeable increase in demand for our help this year and the support of businesses such as S Harrison can really help to create a sense of normality and especially at Christmas.”

S Harrison has made a substantial investment in Edinburgh in recent years and earlier this month confirmed a deal that will see a 1970s office building in the Haymarket area transformed into a stunning new hotel for international hotel operator MEININGER. S Harrison will hold the completed investment, further strengthening the company’s property portfolio.

The developer currently holds two important development sites in Edinburgh, both with planning consent for purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), one on East Newington Place, off Newington Road and one within the historic surroundings of Canongate, just behind the Royal Mile. In addition, S Harrison recently submitted exciting proposals for a residential-led development at Ocean Point 2 in Leith for planning approval.
