Savills has today confirmed that Mike Spens sadly and unexpectedly passed away earlier this month.

Mike joined the Savills retail warehouse team in Scotland in 2003, becoming an integral part of the Edinburgh office. His career started in the out of town retail market in 1990, where he was involved in factory outlet retailing from its first introduction to Scotland.

At Savills, Mike focused on leisure and roadside services, working with a variety of retailers, landlords, developers and operators, and recently developed significant knowledge and advisory services around electric vehicle charging (EV). He was also a former board member of Accessible Retail.

Nick Penny, head of Savills Scotland, said Mike will be greatly missed not only by all of his Savills colleagues both in Scotland and across the UK, but also by his clients, many of whom he enjoyed long-standing relationships with.

“Mike was a close friend and colleague to many of us; he had great humour, humility and most importantly was incredibly kind,” added Nick. “He made time for everyone and was hugely supportive of both those within his peer group but also support staff and graduates. There is no doubt that he will be missed enormously. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.”

For those wishing to attend, Mike’s funeral will be held at Warriston Crematorium at 1pm on Thursday 27th November.
