SBF unveils diverse anniversary programme

The Scottish Building Federation is commemorating 130 years at the heart of Scotland’s construction sector with a dynamic line-up of events.
From essential legislative briefings and advanced technology workshops to a special golf tournament and a celebratory President’s Lunch, the Federation’s anniversary calendar showcases its commitment to innovation, education and community.
The Scottish Building Federation was founded in 1895 and represents the construction industry in Scotland, advocating for the interests of its members and promoting excellence in the sector.
The first of these showcase events kicks off in Glasgow next week with some expert insight on legislative changes impacting the sector. Attendees can hear from Michael Conroy, Partner with Harper Macleod LLP, on the applicability of the Building Safety Act 2022 in Scotland.
The Act was introduced in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire and aims to make sure that another such tragedy is avoided. In this free event, which is open to anyone working in the industry, Mr Conroy will shed light on the UK-wide provisions and the measures that the Scottish Government is taking to address the aspects which are devolved to Holyrood.
Later in the year, Federation members can look forward to the opportunity to play in a unique golf tournament in Carnoustie, as well as bespoke training sessions on the use of AI (artificial intelligence) in construction, which are being rolled out across the country in the autumn.
The anniversary celebrations culminate in the prestigious President’s Lunch in Edinburgh in November.
Operations director Paul Mitchell said: “We are grateful to Michael Conroy of Harper Macleod for sharing his legal expertise on the Building Safety Act with business leaders and construction professionals, ensuring that the industry is aware of our practical responsibilities and future expectations.
“This event will also provide a fantastic opportunity to network with members, guests and industry representatives in a relaxed atmosphere.
“We are also pleased that our varied programme of events to celebrate the Scottish Building Federation’s 130th anniversary demonstrates that we remain at the forefront of the sector; advancing new technologies, interpreting contemporary legislation and promoting our modern industry whilst also continuing to deliver personalised business support services directly to our growing membership.”
The Building Safety Act presentation takes place between 3-4pm on Thursday 5 June in the Merchants House of Glasgow.
It is being held on the same day as the Federation’s AGM and it is a free event which is open to the wider industry. Reservations can be made online.
