For the 2026 festival, the theme is ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’ and venues, companies, building managers and local groups across the region have been invited to participate through hosting an event.

This theme considers the need to safeguard, celebrate, and adapt heritage at a time of environmental, social, and economic volatility. 

Organised by the Scottish Civic Trust, the annual event is Scotland’s biggest festival which provides access to some of the most historically significant buildings in the area. 

All events are free and take place in-person and remotely. 

Councillor Simon Mountford, executive member for Planning and Community Assets, said: “The festival provides a unique opportunity for venues and organisations across the region to engage with new audiences and showcase everything they have to offer.

“This year’s festival highlights the environmental, social, and economic challenges facing our communities, while celebrating how our region is responding and adapting to them.”

Mountford added: “I encourage everyone with a story to share to consider hosting an event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to attract visitors from across the country and beyond, while strengthening connections with local communities.”
