Scottish Government ‘not engaging’ with transport review

Scottish Government 'not engaging' with transport review

The Scottish Government has refused to engage with a UK-wide transport review which will consider, among other things, the “cost, practicality and demand for” a bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the appointment of Sir Peter Hendy CBE, chair of Network Rail, to head an independent review of transport infrastructure across the UK.

The terms of the review include examining “the cost, practicality and demand for a new fixed link between Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack told MPs today that he had met Sir Peter yesterday to discuss the review.

Mr Jack added: “It is extremely disappointing – it is worth making this point again – that Transport Secretary Matheson has instructed his officials not to engage in the review, to the detriment of Scotland and her economy.”
