Scottish Renewables unveils new CEO

Angela Hepworth

The voice of Scotland’s renewable energy industry has today announced the appointment of Angela Hepworth as its new chief executive officer.

Angela will step into the role at Scottish Renewables following an extensive search process, bringing more than two decades of experience in civil service and industry roles, with a proven track record of shaping the future of UK energy policy.

She joins Scottish Renewables from Drax, where she has been corporate affairs director and commercial director, leading work on low-carbon projects. Previously, Angela served as policy & regulation director at EDF UK, leading development work on Sizewell C.

Angela began her career at the Department for Trade & Industry, where she worked on security of energy supply and the development of electricity markets.

Susie Lind, chair of Scottish Renewables, said: “We are delighted to welcome Angela as our new CEO. Her proven track record in the energy sector, combined with her strategic insight into the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition, makes her the ideal new leader to guide Scottish Renewables.

“As we work to deliver a sustainable, secure and affordable energy future for Scotland, Angela’s expertise will be invaluable in representing our members and driving the policy changes necessary to unlock further investment and innovation.”

As CEO, Angela Hepworth will lead Scottish Renewables’ efforts to champion the sector, working with government, industry and stakeholders to support investment and accelerate progress towards Scotland’s renewable energy goals.

Angela Hepworth, incoming CEO of Scottish Renewables, said: “I am honoured to be joining Scottish Renewables at such a transformative time for the energy sector. Scotland has already made remarkable progress in its renewable energy journey, but there is much more to be done to fully realise our potential.

“I look forward to working with the talented team at Scottish Renewables and our diverse membership base to champion the sector, overcome barriers and ensure that renewable energy continues to be the cornerstone of Scotland’s economic and environmental future.”

Angela will join Scottish Renewables on July 20 and will officially assume the role of chief executive officer on July 31, when Claire Mack OBE steps down after serving as Scottish Renewables’ CEO since 2017.

Commenting on Claire’s departure, Susie Lind added: “Claire has worked tirelessly over the past nine years to champion for the sector in Scotland. Under her leadership, Scottish Renewables has grown in impact and influence.

“We are very grateful for the commitment she has shown to the organisation and the sector, and wish her well as she takes on an exciting new position at SSEN Transmission.”
