Scottish tradespeople among winners at 2024 On The Tools Awards

The 2024 On The Tools Awards took place on Thursday, November 21st with Jewson headline sponsoring a glittering ceremony that celebrated the exceptional talent, dedication, and innovation within the UK construction sector.

With the generous support of sponsors, the evening recognised tradespeople and professionals making an extraordinary impact on their industry and communities.

Among the winners were Glasgow-based stonemason Scott Reid from Stratum Masonry, Glasgow-based bathroom fitter Jordan Kane from Kane Concept Plumbing and Tiling, and window fitter Robert Macmillan from Fort William. Scott claimed the top spot in the Traditional Craftsperson of the Year category, sponsored by Renault Trucks, with Jordan taking the top spot in the Bathroom Fitter of the Year category, sponsored by Triton Showers, and Robert taking the top spot in the Window Fitter of the Year category, sponsored by Soudal.



Each winner received a coveted Barry Head trophy and £1,000 in prize money, courtesy of the generous sponsors.

Traditional Craftsperson of the Year – Sponsored by Renault Trucks

Winner: Scott Reid, Stratum Masonry

Scott Reid is a dedicated stonemason and founder of Stratum, committed to preserving and advancing the craft. Through his apprenticeship scheme, he nurtures new talent, pairing apprentices with mentors. Scott actively engages with schools to inspire future craftsmen, and his vision for a stonemasonry training academy reflects his dedication to the trade’s future.

Bathroom Fitter of the Year – Sponsored by Triton 

Winner: Jordan Kane, Kane Concept Plumbing and Tiling

Jordan started his career through a college employability course, later launching his own business in 2020. He’s built a strong reputation for high-end bathroom installations, earning collaborations with City Plumbing and Perflex Grout. Jordan’s social media presence has expanded his influence, and in 2022 he was nominated for Best Bathroom Company.

Window Fitter of the Year – Sponsored by SOUDAL

Winner: Robert MacMillan, Robert MacMillan Carpentry and Joinery

Robert MacMillan, operating from Fort William, Scotland, excels in window fitting and carpentry. His meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail have earned him praise from clients. With plans for growth, including hiring an apprentice, Robert balances professional success with community involvement, advocating for mental health and supporting local youth activities.
