Seven-bedroom annex approved at Piersland House Hotel

Seven-bedroom annex approved at Piersland House Hotel

Ayrshire’s Grade A-listed Piersland House Hotel will obtain a new seven-bedroom annex thanks to planning permission approved by South Ayrshire Council.

The proposals previously passed the planning stage in July 2020, but permission lapsed on July 9 this year, leading to an application for an extension.

Architects in the proposals are Ayrshire-based LMA Architects, the Daily Record reports.

In their design statement LMA Architects said the annex, which will be built to the rear of the hotel, was “essential” for the owners to keep the building in use.

The design statement reads: “The thought process that has led to this proposal, is due to the economic costs of maintaining and running a building of this nature. It is the owner’s priority to look after this building and they should be commended for their work to date.

“They have thoroughly investigated the best solution for them to be able to continue to do this and it is important to them that any solution has minimal intervention of the listed buildings.

“This annex is essential for the current owner to keep the building in use and the design endeavours to minimise the impact of the intervention on the listed building whilst enabling the continued use of the building.

LMA Architects stated that the design will take a “sensitive approach” rather than directly impacting the listed building.
