Space Solutions brings sustainability to Utopi office transformation

Workplace design and management consultancy Space Solutions undertook a design and build project for multi-award-winning ESG technology solutions provider Utopi in EastWorks, Clyde Gateway, creating a transformational office of the future.

As experts in helping businesses reduce the environmental impact of their estates through innovative ESG technology, it was essential that the new space for Utopi was created with sustainability and flexibility at its core. Utopi works with investors, asset owners, operators and residents globally to understand how to reduce the impact of their real estate assets on the environment as part of their ESG commitment, so an office that demonstrated best practice was essential.

With a shared vision and environmental commitment, the two businesses created a true sustainability-driven partnership. Space Solutions adopted biophilic design practices, whereby natural elements are set within a building to create a healthy and natural environment. Through balancing private and open areas with acoustics, space and collaborative working at its heart, the team has created an environmentally sensitive office that is ideal for modern business working.

Recycle Scotland, a division of Space Solutions, sourced a variety of recycled chairs to complement existing and new pieces of furniture, creating a cohesive look and feel while reflecting Utopi’s environmental mission.

Sarah McGregor, associate interior designer at Space Solutions, said: “Working with Utopi was a unique experience for us given the passion and commitment their business brings to their work. A special feature of the relationship was the trust they put in our team, knowing the end product would reflect their commitment to sustainability. For us, it was good to work with someone whose approach and beliefs were so close to our own.”

Drew Carmichael, director of Recycle Scotland, said: “We are thrilled to have worked with Utopi on this project by providing pre-used products to match those selected by other suppliers, creating a sense that everything was part of the original space.”

Jonathan Burridge, CEO and co-founder at Utopi, added: “Utopi have experienced huge growth in recent years, so having an office that demonstrated our success, our commitment to the environment, but also a great place to bring our team together was essential. Space Solutions have helped us achieve a true home for the Utopi team, and one we are thrilled to be operating from. My particular favourite is the live culture walls, ensuring we showcase our true passion for sustainability.”
