Two employees at Stewart Milne Homes have been recognised at the Trades Awards 2016 for their exceptional work across the housebuilder’s developments.

Greg Thompson (32) from Premnay in Aberdeenshire was awarded a High Commendation in the prestigious category for Site Manager of the Year 2016 while Shaun Davies (20) from Arbroath was crowned winner of the Apprentice of the Year 2016 accolade.

Senior site manager Greg was rewarded for his exceptional site management at Stewart Milne Homes’ The Gardens at Crathes development in Aberdeenshire, where he worked before recently moving to Hunter’s Meadow in Auchterarder.

After completing a BSc degree in Construction Design and Management at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Greg gained experience with local construction companies and housebuilders before joining Stewart Milne Homes as assistant site manager in 2010. Through his drive, determination and leadership skills, he quickly progressed through the ranks to Site Manager in 2012, followed by Senior Site Manager in 2015.

Greg’s planned approach is evident in everything on site from resources, materials, storage, and house-keeping to traffic management, site presentation and customer environment, and the Crathes development is used as a benchmark for other sites to aspire to.

With meticulous attention to detail with regards to health and safety and build quality, Greg’s work has previously been acknowledged in 2015 when he was presented with a Highly Commended award at the NHBC Health and Safety Awards and a Seal of Excellence award at the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards.

Greg said: “It’s a real honour to have been given a Highly Commended award at the Trades Awards – it’s a great achievement and fantastic recognition for all the efforts the team and I put in.”

Apprentice Bricklayer, Shaun is currently based at Stewart Milne Homes’ design-led development The Plaza at Riverside Quarter in Aberdeen, where the homes and apartment blocks are constructed using complex brickwork as the main material and demand an outstanding quality of bricklaying.

A former student of Arbroath College, where he received the Best in Class award in 2013, Shaun has excelled in his career so far. In winning the Apprentice of the Year title he has been recognised for his unwavering motivation and ambition to hone his skills in the trade and for his unparalleled work-ethic, as well as his ability to learn fast and apply attention to detail.

Shaun is also a role model, inspiring a future generation of trades by acting as a construction spokesperson at local careers events, where he encourages other young people to consider an apprenticeship.

He said: “I’m really excited to have been awarded Apprentice of the Year at the Trades Awards. My apprenticeship has been brilliant and has given me the confidence that if I work hard, I can go far in the industry.”

John Low, managing director of Stewart Milne Homes, added: “Shaun and Greg are two deserving winners and we’re thrilled they’ve been recognised for their hard work. These awards shine a spotlight on the calibre of trades in the North East of Scotland and the double triumph for Stewart Milne Homes highlights the commitment and dedication of our team to designing and building our homes to the highest quality standards of craftsmanship.”
