Stirling approves affordable housing supply priority sites with SHIP agreement

Proposals to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Stirling Council area over the next five years have been approved.

Stirling Council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), for the years 2026/27 to 2030/31, sets out the priority projects expected to deliver additional affordable housing across the region and earmarked to receive potential grant funding from the Scottish Government. This public funding will add to the resources provided by Stirling Council and other affordable housing providers such as Forth Housing Association and Rural Stirling Housing Association.

The SHIP will be submitted to the Scottish Government as part of the annual process to identify and agree the programme of sites to receive future grant funding. While the amount of funding is yet to be confirmed by the Scottish Government, the plan estimates that almost 900 homes can be delivered by Stirling Council and Housing Association partners over the five-year period.

Convener of the newly created Housing Committee, Cllr Willie Ferguson, said: “We’re aware of the acute need for additional affordable homes across the Stirling area and of how challenging it can be to successfully deliver a programme to meet that need.

“However, through good, collaborative working with our housing association partners, and with so many affordable housing sites coming forward on the sites being driven by private developers, this five-year programme is ambitious but realistic.

“It will continue to build on the progress made under the previous Strategic Housing Investment Plan to create high-quality homes that meet the needs of residents in communities across the Stirling Council area.”
