Student accommodation proposal to replace consented Glasgow city centre development

Student accommodation proposal to replace consented Glasgow city centre development

Student accommodation provider Alumno is to host a consultation event today to outline its proposals for a new development in central Glasgow.

The developer wants to deliver a block of flats at the site of an old showroom and garage on the corner of St George’s Road and Grant Street.

The plot was cleared some time ago after permission was given in January 2019 for a six-storey building containing 65 flats. That proposal was not progressed.

The pre-application event will take place on Thursday between 14:00 and 19:00 at the Mitchell Library, during which Barton Willmore will set out their vision.

Previously approved plans for the site

A consultation website about the new plan states: “Alumno took control of the St. George’s Road site from its previous owners in the autumn of 2022 and have quickly moved forward with their design team with the initial development of proposals to accommodate one of their high quality student residential proposals serving the requirements of the students of Glasgow’s numerous higher education facilities.

Ground floor commercial units may also be included.

A planning application is expected later in the spring.
