Taylor Wimpey completes handover of 82 affordable homes in Maidenhill

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has completed a programme to deliver 82 homes for social rent for East Renfrewshire Council, which forms part of the wider masterplan vision and framework for Maidenhill, Newton Mearns.

Comprising of one and two-bedroom cottage flats, two and three-bedroom terraced, three bedroom semi-detached as well as four-bedroom detached homes, the homes for social rent have been built in three locations across the development, positively contributing to this new and impressive neighbourhood that is now growing in East Renfrewshire.

Taylor Wimpey designed and created an affordable housing range which has allowed its team to deliver accurate, appropriate, and responsive proposals to meet the design brief for affordable homes at Maidenhill. In real terms, this means that East Renfrewshire Council has taken ownership of 82 ‘turn-key’ homes which are ready to move into the day that keys are exchanged.

Work on the first 39 homes started in August 2020 and the programme has remained on time and within budget until its conclusion this week.

Alison Henderson, special projects manager for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “Reaching the conclusion of our obligation to East Renfrewshire Council to provide 82 affordable homes for Maidenhill marks another milestone on the journey towards creating a fantastic new neighbourhood in the heart of East Renfrewshire.

“Our commitment to providing 20 intermediate homes to be sold at reduced market value has also been met, and this week’s handover of the final nine homes for social rent will see a mix of tenants move in to start enjoying life in their new home as part of the wider community in Maidenhill.”

East Renfrewshire Council housing and environment convener, Councillor Danny Devlin, added: “I am absolutely delighted that in partnership with Taylor Wimpey, we have provided people with such high-quality flats and houses. There is a strong community growing in Maidenhill, with a state-of-the-art new school, so I know that our tenants in these 82 new homes will be very happy.

“East Renfrewshire continues to be an extremely popular place to live, and this is why we began our ambitious house build project back in 2018; the results of which continue to provide families and individuals with fantastic, affordable homes in our communities. This development reflects our aspirations and I commend Taylor Wimpey for the work undertaken here in Newton Mearns.”
