The land is situated adjacent to Taylor Wimpey’s Hopefield development, where the final homes will be handed over to their new owners this month.

Following a period of public consultation with members of the local community and a wide range of key stakeholders, the proposals include the provision of a range of new homes and apartments, of which 25% would be affordable, a new primary school to serve the development, community facilities including land for community growing, the integration of Little Wood into the masterplan as well as open space and footpath networks together with the associated infrastructure required for a development of this scale.

The land at Dalhousie Chesters is identified in the Midlothian Local Development Plan 2017 (LDP), and Taylor Wimpey’s application will include a framework of the proposed masterplan for the area, which will aim to integrate the proposed new development with the existing Hopefield development to the north, as well as existing housing and businesses within and on the margins of the development.

Pauline Mills, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, added: “Taylor Wimpey can confirm that following extensive public consultation, an application for Planning Permission in Principle has been submitted for our land at Dalhousie Chesters in Bonnyrigg.

“As well as an impressive range of new homes, our masterplan for the development aims to create a place, rather than an extension to Hopefield, and it would provide a range of economic benefits for the local Bonnyrigg area which includes supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses from those who choose to live in one of the new homes this development aims to deliver.”
