A tender document is to go out outlining £1.39 million of investment works for the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen, forming part of the City Centre and Beach Masterplan.
On 5 August, the move was agreed at Aberdeen City Council’s Finance and Resources Committee.
Roof and external building repairs such as dome rebuild and leadwork replacement, boosting disability access, the replacement of Star Ballroom windows, new gantry and access stair to roof space, as well as alarm and CCTV upgrades are included in the works.
Finance and Resources Committee convener Councillor Alex McLellan said: “The Beach Ballroom is an incredibly important building in our city and we are investing in the fabric of the building, ensuring that we are getting the basics right, to ensure it continues to meet the need[s] of generations to come.”
Aberdeen City Council co-leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “It is important that the Council invests in maintaining and improving existing facilities like the Beach Ballroom.
“Investing in the Beach Ballroom complements investment in creating the new Beach Park.”
A report to the committee said the physical improvements to the fabric of the Beach Ballroom should lead to energy-efficiency enhancements for the building. It said it is anticipated that the tender will go out during winter this year or next year.
