Thorntons has announced the appointment of seven newly qualified solicitors, including two new commercial property additions.

Euan McLaughlan and Nikia Ferrie have both joined the commercial property team in Dundee, and Gemma Vear and Tim McKeown have joined the land and rural business teams in Perth and Edinburgh, respectively.

Sean Lieder and Hannah Smethurst have joined the firm’s corporate team in Edinburgh, and Walter Buckman has joined the corporate team in Glasgow.

Gemma Vear, who joins the land and rural business team, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my traineeship at Thorntons. As a full-service law firm, Thorntons can offer a truly varied traineeship. During my two years, I have had the opportunity to complete four seats in different departments.

“I have been able to work within the land and rural business, private client, family, and corporate departments, which has been great for gaining a rounded experience and exposure. Regardless of the department or location, each of the teams I have worked in and all the colleagues I have met have been welcoming, friendly and supportive.

“I am delighted to be returning to the land and rural business team as a newly qualified solicitor, based between our Perth and Edinburgh offices. I am looking forward to building on my experience with an interesting and varied caseload, whilst developing a specialism and progressing in my career within a talented team at an ambitious firm.”

Colin Graham, chair of Thorntons, said: “It is extremely rewarding to welcome these exceptional new solicitors to the Thorntons team.

“Throughout their traineeships, they have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to the firm’s values. We are confident they will flourish in their chosen specialisations and make valuable contributions to our clients across Scotland.”

All the new additionas have completed the firm’s two-year traineeship programme.
