Three more teams advance at Business Fives from the Glasgow Construction, Housing & Property sector

Advance Construction took the honours on the day

Firms from across Glasgow’s construction, housing & property sectors made up the final Glasgow-based qualifier of Scotland’s national business five-a-side tournament yesterday on a day that saw a further three teams qualify for the national final.

The teams have all been fundraising for various charities and their fundraising took Business Fives over £11,500 raised for various causes throughout Scotland this summer as they bid to raise over £25,000 for charity this summer.

The notable contribution came from eventual winners Advance Construction who raised £230 for Ring20 Research & Support.

The tournament was played in a competitive spirit as ENGIE, Dougall Baillie Associates, Story Contracting and Advance Construction stormed into the Champions League section semi-finals.

Impressively Dougall Baillie Associates hadn’t lost a game and that continued in the semi finals only to be undone on penalties after a 4 all thriller against ENGIE. The ENGIE team secured qualification for the national final for the third summer in a row, a feat only they can boast.

Handshakes between the CBES and Lovell teams

In the adjacent semi-final it was a similarly close encounter with Advance Construction finishing tied 3 all with winter finalists, Story Contracting. It took 7 sudden death penalties to separate the teams with Advance Construction holding their nerve.

Advance Construction went on to win the final 5-1 against ENGIE having already beaten them in the group stages. Luke Kelly was singled out by ambassador Gordon Smith for his stand out performance to be named man of the match in the final.

There was a further place up for grabs in the national final which is being hosted in Edinburgh on 26th September via the Europa League section. The semi-final line up was City Building Engineering Services, Story Contracting Team 2, Lovell and Stewart Milne Group.

CBES were finding their scoring form at the right time as they overcame Stewart Milne Group 4-0 to secure their place in the Europa League final. Lovell came through a much tighter affair with Story Contracting as they won 2-1.

The final was a close encounter with both sides defending well but it was the City Building Engineering Services team who found the net when it mattered after some end to end football with the game finishing 1-0.

The action continues on Tuesday 14th August in Dundee before heading further north to Aberdeen on Friday 17th August. The final qualifying event is in Edinburgh later this month when the Professional Services sector meets on August 21st.
