Timber firm MGM announces takeover deal

MGM Timber has bought smaller rival Robert Reid & Sons of Hamilton for an undisclosed sum.

The firm, which already operates across 12 Scottish sites, confirmed confirmed the move while also saying that it is looking to secure new premises in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

MGM said it expects to boost Robert Reid & Sons’ turnover by at least 50 per cent within the next two years.

Now in its 69th year of trading, Robert Reid will help MGM better serve its customers in the area alongside MGM’S existing branches in Glasgow, Wishaw and Ayrshire.

David Mansell, managing director of MGM, added that Robert Reid will continue to trade under its current name and all staff will be retained. Meanwhile, as first announced in April, the firm continues to seek a presence in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

Established in 1991, MGM Timber has been part of the family-owned James Donaldson Group since 2005.
