Topping out marked for Girvan Primary School
A topping-out ceremony took place to mark the delivery of the steel structure at the site of the new Girvan Primary School and Early Years Centre.
On 6 October, pupils and school staff were joined by councillors, representatives from Kier, and guests to mark the progress made in the delivery of the new campus.
The build would have a standalone Early Years Centre with its own entrance and reception, as well as a brand-new Primary School.
The Primary School building will have classrooms over two levels as well as a dedicated Additional Support Needs (ASN) base.
Earlier in 2026, on the existing school site, construction of the new campus started. After the delivery of the project, pupils will move into the new building, and the demolition of the current school will start.
Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council’s depute leader and policy lead for Commercial/Operational Services, said: “It’s fantastic to see the building taking shape, and we’re one step closer to delivering a modern, high-quality learning environment that will support children, families and the community for generations to come.”
Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council’s policy lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “Reaching this stage in the construction programme is a major achievement and highlights the progress being made towards creating an inspiring new educational campus for Girvan.
“The new school and early years centre will provide first-class facilities that support learning, wellbeing and achievement from the early stages, helping our young people to reach their full potential.”
Councillor Martin Kilbride, South Ayrshire Council’s policy lead for Housing and Property Services, said: “This ceremony marks another important step in the delivery of this landmark investment for Girvan.
“The new campus has been designed to provide sustainable, fit-for-purpose facilities that meet the needs of pupils, staff and the wider community, demonstrating our continued commitment to investing in modern public buildings that will serve South Ayrshire well into the future.”
Philip McDowell, regional director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “Reaching this topping out milestone is a significant achievement and a testament to the strong partnership between Kier and South Ayrshire Council.”
