As part of its ongoing commitment to working in partnership with local communities, and its support of Penicuik & District Men’s Shed, Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has donated a storage unit which the shedders are refurbishing to create a new workshop cabin to support their move to the existing Penicuik YMCA building.

The Penicuik & District Men’s Shed is one of 127 Men’s Sheds open across Scotland. It is a local charity that is dedicated to providing a supportive environment for men to promote mental, physical, emotional wellbeing of its members, as well as the economic wellbeing of others in the local community through the provision of recreational facilities and activities.

Commenting on the support it has received from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, Jim Mallen, vice-chair at Penicuik Men’s Shed, said: “Our Men’s Shed plays an important part within the local community to support ageing men. It is a place to pursue practical skills, as well as creating social connections and making friends while sharing knowledge, and this unusual donation of a storage unit is a great boost.

“We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor Wimpey to date, and we can’t thank them enough for their latest generous and quite unusual donation. They have gifted nus with an old storage unit, and we are refurbishing it to create a workshop cabin that will further support our new association with Penicuik YMCA to create a functioning garden area with a polytunnel and raised planter beds.”

Taylor Wimpey’s donation also marks a further milestone for its latest local development to launch for sale at Greenlaw Mains in Penicuik, where construction on its range of two, three, four and five bedroom homes is well underway.

Kirsty McGill, sales and marketing director, added: “We are proud to be able to continue our support for the Penicuik & District Men’s Shed in this unusual way, which has allowed them to upcycle one of our old storage units to create a new resource they will be able to use to support their work on a variety of local projects.

“We do more than just build high-quality homes. Being able to work with local businesses and organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us, and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in local communities.”
