VIDEO: M74 opens to traffic following successful bridge demolition

Bothwellpark Road Bridge demolition drone 7Part of the main arterial route between Scotland and England re-opened to traffic at over six hours ahead of schedule following the first planned closure of the road in its 50 year history.

As part of the £500 million M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project, the M74 was closed to traffic in both directions for the weekend to allow engineers to demolish Bothwellpark Road Bridge, to the north of Junction 5 Raith.

Closing from 8pm on Friday, the road was scheduled to re-open at 6am on Monday in time for the morning peak time traffic, however, both directions were cleared just after 11:30pm on Sunday evening following a successful 51 hour construction operation.
