If approved by Glasgow City Council, the homes would be built on the site of a former pub which has since been demolished and the existing disused Polloshaws Police Station.

The three/four-storey building would have 21 two-bedroom units, 12 with one bedroom plus two wheelchair-suitable one-bedroom homes.

A car park, with 23 spaces, and bike storage are also included in the application.

Plans state the flats would be “arranged in a U shape with a rear landscaped courtyard, which incorporates amenity space”.

A statement submitted with the planning application explained that the development has been designed to be “appropriately set within the diverse context of a historic church, mature trees, a recently completed nearby flatted development and a much more substantial housing development which is about to undergo construction on the other side of Shawbridge Street”.

It added: “Furthermore, scale, choice of materials and the character of the building were to be carefully considered in achieving a unique yet respectful identity which also contributes to a sense of place as it addresses and interrelates with existing contextual elements, be they existing buildings, recently proposed buildings, or indeed substantial open spaces or mature trees, and as it partly encloses its own rear landscaped courtyard.”

Two trees near to the site boundary would need to be removed to make way for the homes.
