Staff at building services firm William Montgomery & Sons have raised more than £1,900 for specialist charity Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (SBH Scotland) by taking part in the Zipslide the Clyde challenge.
A total of 17 members of staff from the family-run Glasgow business were amongst more than 400 participants who took part in the challenge over the course of three days at the Glasgow Riverside Museum.
The team bravely took to the sky, launching off from a 100ft high crane next to the stunning Glasgow Riverside Museum and zipsliding down a 1000ft long route alongside the Clyde, the longest zipslide SBH Scotland has ever done.
Stewart Montgomery, managing director of William Montgomery & Sons, said: “I’ve recently learned of the fantastic work that SBH Scotland do, providing personalised support to over 4,000 individuals across Scotland who live with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and I knew I wanted to do something big to support them.
“The Zipslide the Clyde challenge was the perfect opportunity, so when we found out it was returning this year, I immediately signed up seventeen members of my team. Everyone from our chairman, operations manager, site manager, as well as joiners, painters and groundworkers were keen to be involved.
“I would say everyone was a little nervous, myself included, but it was a fantastic experience and a great team building activity for the team. As a family-run business, team building is so important to encourage strong working relationships and a positive culture.”
Deborah Roe, director of fundraising for SBH Scotland, added: “We were thrilled to bring back our Zipslide the Clyde challenge and with a total of £64,000 raised over the three days, we’re delighted to announce that it was the most successful Zipslide event in our history.
“As an organisation with little statutory support, fundraising events like this are vital to the survival of our charity and our ability to deliver life-changing services in Scotland.
“It’s thanks to our generous supporters, like the team at William Montgomery & Sons, that we can continue to deliver many of our vital services and can be there for families at a time when they need us the most.”
