Between 4 February and 3 April, Network Rail will deliver a new step‑free route linking the station with Birnam Glen, as well as upgrades to the surrounding footpath network and lighting.

The improvements, funded by Transport Scotland, are part of a wider programme of work by Network Rail to enhance accessibility across Scotland’s Railway.

The project will create a new ramped footpath from the rear of Platform 2, connecting directly to the existing path toward Birnam Glen Road.

Network Rail will also upgrade the footpath beneath the railway overbridge and install new lighting columns along Birnam Glen to improve visibility and safety.

What’s happening?

• Monday 9 February to Friday 27 February: Construction of a new ramped footpath providing step‑free access from Platform 2 to the existing footpath linking to Birnam Glen Road.
• Monday 2 March to Friday 13 March: Upgrades to the footpath beneath the railway overbridge, connecting the new ramp to Platform 1.
• Monday 2 March to Friday 3 April: Birnam Glen Road closed to vehicles weekdays from 9am until 3pm between the turning area and the junction with Perth Road. Emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.
• Monday 16 March to Friday 3 April: Installation of new lighting columns along Birnam Glen and resurfacing of the roadway.

Once complete, the work will create a smoother, safer and more reliable route for everyone using the station.

The work builds on the successful first phase of improvements completed in 2025, which raised both platforms to improve safety and accessibility for passengers.
